Flexible Double Pointed Needles

flexible double points
If you haven't heard of these needles before, they are a set of three double pointed needles with a short flexible cord in the middle. This mysterious combination merges the Double Pointed and Magic Loop knitting methods.

Stitches are placed on two needles (like Magic Loop) and then knit with the third needles (like double points).

The flexibility of these needles allows you to use less needles than the standard sets of five double points. As well, those who love using DPNS can now do toe up socks that are normally only done with the Magic Loop method.

When the needles were introduced, we had gotten in a few metal ones from the two companies. In comparison, The Hiya Hiya ones have sharper tips where as the Addi ones have a pointy end and a duller end. The Hiya Hiya ones also have a bit longer cord with slightly shorter tips compared to the Addi ones.

Since then, both companies have added in bamboo ones, and Addi have some square tips as well. Addi's range in size from 2 mm to 8 mm and cost $35-$42 per set. Hiya Hiya go from size 2 mm to 5.5 mm and cost $30-$38 per set.

If you are interested in checking them out, I'll have some samples of the needles at the store.

If you'd like to order any, let me know and we'll get them in for you.
